Ron Greenbaum, The Basement Doctor, honored as a LifeTown Legend at this year's luncheon

On Wednesday May 30, LifeTown held its annual Legends Luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel with keynote speaker Hollywood Producer Gordan Gray. This year's luncheon also honored our own Ron Greenbaum, and Michael Schiff as LifeTown legends.

“Having two adults with special needs in my family, I know first-hand how important the exposure to everyday life skills is,” Greenbaum says. “LifeTown is about empowering students to become self-advocates and productive members of our community. It is an organization I am proud to support, and I am humbled to be honored at this year’s event.”

Funds raised at this year's luncheon are donated to the LifeTown Scholarship fund and make it possible to give 3,506 children the LifeTown experience. LifeTown is the only facility of its kind in Ohio and one of only two in the United States. That’s why students come from all over the state to take advantage of the program. It gives thousands of kids, who are too often marginalized and forgotten, the tools to live and work successfully as valued members of society. 

Something new to LifeTown that was highlighted during the luncheon is its "Stop to Live" initiative. The Stop to Live program is the first prescription drug misuse and abuse program in the Nation designed for students with varying abilities. It was born out of the devastation and suffering caused by the opioid epidemic and the recognition that people with special needs are 2-4 times more at risk but are often overlooked when it comes to prevention strategies.

Freezin' for a Reason! The Basement Doctor presents the 16th Annual Polar Plunge at Express Live

The Basement Doctor was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 16^th annual Polar Plunge on February 3^rd at its new location, Express Live!  All proceeds from the plunge went directly to support 26,000 Special Olympics Ohio athletes.  This fun event included a costume contest and an after-party hosted by DJ MDizzle.

Special Olympics has made it their mission to ensure that no athletes or their families are financially responsible for participating. Similar to last year, all plungers were required to raise a minimum of $75 ($50 for students) in pledges. This year, plungers had the option to register as ‘Too Chicken To Plunge’ and were required to raise a minimum of $30. The event was a success raising over $108,000 total!

As well as our sponsorship, Team Basement Doctor had 29 participating plungers and raised over $1,500! Many employees made donations and were present for the event to show their support.

Giving back in a big way to the children at LifeTown

Giving back has always been a major component of the Basement Doctor brand. As a company, we make it a priority to support important causes and organizations like LifeTown that make a difference in our community.

LifeTown is a simulated town where children with disabilities can learn and implement crucial life skills through role play.  The facility uses simulated banks, movie theatres, hair salons, libraries, etc., to teach these children to thrive in every day society. The Basement Doctor is a proud partner of this great cause.

Ron Greenbaum was so moved by the LifeTown Legends Luncheon held in May that this spring we were happy to put a campaign into place which donated a portion from every purchase made from May 1 to July 31, 2017.

Columbus Business First 2017 C-Suite Awards honors Ron Greenbaum, The Basement Doctor

The C-Suite Awards by Columbus Business First recognizes Central Ohio's top executives. They are honored for their contributions and commitment to our local community as well as their professional performance and career accomplishments.

Our own Ron Greenbaum, The Basement Doctor, was selected to receive recognition at the C-Suite Awards gala on September 7, at the Hyatt Regency. He was one of just 19 honorees narrowed down by a panel of business school professors.

“I want everyone to know that this award is the result of an amazing TEAM effort and wouldn’t have happened without everyone’s commitment to excellence, " Ron said about accepting the award.

Ron understood back in 1999 that to grow a profitable company and maintain the highest market share in your industry, you have to build a trusted brand. Ron's commitment to a consistent branding initiative has remained steadfast since the day he was on a road trip and saw a billboard for The House Doctor. He said then, "That's what we do; we fix basements just like a doctor." He immediately trademarked ''The Basement Doctor'' nationally. From that point on, Ron's branding initiative became the heartbeat of our company's success and culture.

As a business leader, Ron believes it is important to set an example of giving back to our community and our local charities. "At the end of the day, a business structure can exist, but it's the customers and the community that make a business successful," he said.

Ron sets this example by supporting dozens of charities and local organizations each year, not just donating funds, but also providing marketing support and raising awareness. Our employees have a long tradition of volunteering and are very much encouraged to get involved in our community.

Ron attended the awards gala with his wife Terri and several members of The Basement Doctor team. It was a very special night for our company, and we couldn't be more proud of our leader! Pelotonia 2017: The Basement Doctor joins Power of the Pedal: Team Solove in the fight against cancer

The Basement Doctor had the honor of once again participating in this year’s Pelotonia, a grassroots bike tour with one goal: end cancer. While the bike tour takes place over a single weekend, fundraising efforts take place year-round, and we were proud to be a part of several events leading up to the big ride the weekend of August 4 - 6.

On August 2, The Basement Doctor served as the presenting sponsor for the 9^th Annual Power of the Pedal: Team Solove Gala at Bon vie Bistro at Easton TownCenter. The gala takes place ahead of the opening ceremony to assist their team of riders in raising even more money for this cause. To help spread the word about the gala, our Basement Doctor team walked with Power of the Pedal: Team Solove riders in the Bexley 4th of July parade and handed out flyers with event information. We also created several marketing pieces, including save the dates, email blasts and a social media countdown.

The event successfully raised thousands of dollars that will go directly to cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Institute. The total raised was added to the amounts raised by the individual riders.

Those who attended enjoyed inspirational speakers, live entertainment by DJ MDizzle, food and drinks, and both a live and silent auction filled with fantastic prize packages. Each year, Power of the Pedal remembers someone who has lost their life to cancer, and this year they honored Carol Fox. Fox was the first female president of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Maryland, who died in 2014 from endometrial cancer. During her 31- year career with Columbia Gas, Carol had profound influence and devotion to her company and community.

Power of the Pedal had 24 members participate in fundraising this year, including Maria Durant of ABC 6/Fox 28, and Kelley Douglas, owner of Stile Salon at Easton. Most of the riders biked an incredible 100 miles from Columbus to Gambier. 

The team had the opportunity to appear on Good Day Columbus before the Gala.

Two of our own Basement Doctor team members, Betsy and Adam Bankhurst, took part as riders and had an amazing experience. This was the second year for Betsy, but this was Adam's first time participating. 

"Betsy and I were so honored and proud to be a part of Pelotonia and Power of the Pedal: Team Solove. Saturday was one of the greatest and most fulfilling days of my life, and while it was challenging, I was so inspired and moved by the thousands of people who came together for one goal. I will never forget this experience, and I can’t wait to ride again and continue my fight until this horrible disease is gone, once and for all," he said.

The Basement Doctor took the plunge to support the athletes of Special Olympics Ohio

The Basement Doctor had an amazing experience on Saturday, February 18, when we were the presenting sponsor for this year's 15th Annual Polar Plunge at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This fun and unique event was one of nine plunges taking place in the state of Ohio. All proceeds from these events directly support and benefit the 26,000 athletes of Special Olympics Ohio.

Plungers are required to raise a minimum of $75 or $50 (students) in pledges by the day of the
plunge. On the day of the event, Special Olympics said that nearly $100,000 was raised! This is important because Special Olympics Ohio is dedicated to making sure no family or Olympian is financially responsible for participating. 

The event included a fun costume contest with awards for individuals and teams, as well as an after-party at the zoo.

In addition to our sponsorship, Team Basement Doctor had 12 plungers participating this year, and many of our employees donated to the team or came out to the zoo to show their support at the event. Our team raised a total of $1500.

Special Olympics is a cause that has always been very close to our hearts, and we hope to have an even bigger team next year!

Ron Greenbaum, The Basement Doctor, will be honored at Cancer Support Community's Night of Chocolate 2016

2016 marks the second year that The Basement Doctor has teamed up with Cancer Support Community Central Ohio (CSC) for a series of events to support their organization's important mission to help those suffering with cancer and their loved ones.

Coming up on Friday, September 16, we will be attending CSC's largest fundraiser of the year, Night of Chocolate. Each year this event attracts more than 1000 attendees, and celebrates all things chocolate! All proceeds from Night of Chocolate help provide support and educational programs to central Ohio families whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis.

This year's cruise-themed celebration is being held at Hollywood Casino Columbus and includes a silent and live auction, and raffle prizes. Guest will be able to sip on signature cocktails and taste chocolate treats crafted by premier chocolatiers.

We are especially excited to participate in this year's event because our own Ron Greenbaum is being honored with an Outstanding Corporate Community Award, as well as presenting the Volunteer of the Year Award. One Goal End Cancer! The Basement Doctor sponsors a Pelotonia team at this year's ride

The weekend of August 5 -7, The Basement Doctor had the honor of sponsoring Power of the Pedal: Team Solove in this year's Pelotonia ride.  Pelotonia is a grassroots bike tour with one goal: end cancer. 

Since it began in 2009, the tour has raised over $106 million for cancer research. While the bike tour takes place over a weekend, the fundraising efforts are year-round, with 100 percent of the donations directed to research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Power of the Pedal had 20 members participate in fundraising this year, including Maria Durant of ABC 6 / Fox 28, and Kelley Douglas, owner of Stile Salon at Easton. Most of the riders biked an incredible 100 miles from Columbus to Gambier. One of our own Basement Doctor team members, Betsy Bankhurst, also took part in the event for the first time as a rider and had an amazing experience. She says she can’t wait to do it again next year.

“The peloton is truly a team,” she said. "We have been training together all summer and encouraged each other along the way. We also could not have done it without the external support along the ride.”

The Basement Doctor goes "Bowling with Buckeyes" to support the Cordle Cares Foundation

This past month, The Basement Doctor had the pleasure of once again supporting the Cordle Cares Foundation and their annual event "Bowling with Buckeyes."

The event took place at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster, Ohio. As a lane sponsor, we were able to bowl with a Special Olympian as well as current and former Ohio State football players. We also sponsored a VIP party for four very deserving kids.

All of the proceeds raised during the event go to Special Olympic and community grants, as well as student scholarships. This year's event was a huge success with former players like Pat Elflein, Josh Perry, and Heisman winner Troy Smith, all coming out to meet fans, raise money and support Special Olympians.

The Cordle Cares Foundation was established by former Buckeye Jim Cordle, and it is committed to helping students in need by providing scholarships and participating in other outreach programs. We would like to thank Jim Cordle and CCF for such a fun and meaningful event. We can't wait for next year!

The Basement Doctor supports the 2016 Columbus JCC Maccabi Games

This week marked the start of the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games, an Olympic-style sporting competition held every summer in North America. This year, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus is hosting the games for the fifth time on July 24 to the 29. It is one of the largest organized sports programs for Jewish teens in the world, with more than 800 teens ages 12-16 from the United States, Israel, Mexico, Canada, and several other countries participating.

The Basement Doctor is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of this event, and to offer our support to these amazing young athletes. It is a great way to connect with the Jewish Community. We were especially excited to present the Maccabi Countdown clock that hung prominently in the lobby of the JCC for the past year.

The Basement Doctor named one of Columbus' Top Workplaces for the second year in a row

Columbus CEO Magazine once again partnered with Workplace Dynamics to determine a list of the city's best places to work in 2016. For the second year in a row, The Basement Doctor earned a spot among 70 organizations in Central Ohio!

Our employees were surveyed on our company culture, the benefits we offer and their overall professional satisfaction. In fact, the survey weighs responses to 23 statements to determine rankings in these key areas: direction and values, execution on plans, connection with employees, training, work/life balance, relationships with managers, engagement, pay and benefits.

We are honored to be the only home improvement/waterproofing contractor to make the list, and we were even recognized as a "career-building" company thanks to our extensive training program that includes a mix of video, classroom and on-the-job training. We were also acknowledged for the family atmosphere we like to create for our employees through our company events and the many charitable organizations we support as a team.

The Basement Doctor named a finalist for the 2015 Business First Corporate Caring Awards

This Thursday, June 18, The Basement Doctor had the pleasure of attending the Business First Corporate Caring Awards luncheon at the Hilton Polaris. We were selected as a finalist for the award in the "Small Companies" category.

The Corporate Caring Awards recognizes companies of all sizes for their contributions to Columbus charities and nonprofit organizations, particularly for their financial gifts, volunteer service and other unique contributions. Of the 66 finalists, judges chose 13 honorees in categories including: arts, education, environmental, health, human services and Benefactor of the Year. The luncheon also featured a Q&A with Jeni Britton Bauer, founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, that was conducted by Doug Kridler of the Columbus Foundation.

Supporting talented singer-songwriters with WOSU's Songs at the Center and the Columbus Arts Festival

The Basement Doctor is excited to sponsor a Prime Time Summer Special for WOSU’S Songs at the Center. We hope you can join us for the live taping at the 2015 Columbus Arts Festival featuring three amazing Columbus singer-songwriters.

The taping will be held on Sunday, June 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Seating for the live event will begin at 2:00 p.m., and is free for all who attend, no ticket required! The taping will be held in the Acoustic Lounge in the courtyard of the Cultural Arts Center.

Songs at the Center is a new show that features performances from local top-tier songwriters. The show also blends one-on-one interviews with on-stage interaction among the artists, host and audience.  The Basement Doctor has been a sponsor of the show for the last two years because we feel passionate about supporting local talent and have a love for great music.

The Songs at the Center program tapes weekly at The McConnell Arts Center in Worthington, and airs late-night Saturdays on WOSU. This special live taping will premier on TV in July. The Basement Doctor honored as one of CEO and Columbus Dispatch TOP Workplace 2015

The Basement Doctor is pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of Columbus CEO and 10TV's Top Workplaces for 2015.

The Top Workplaces are determined based solely on anonymous employee feedback from an online survey. The survey is conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. WorkplaceDynamics conducts regional Top Workplaces programs with 40 major publishing partners across the United States.

The entire Top Workplace program was founded on the belief that the most successful companies are the ones that the employees believe in. There are only 22 questions on the survey, but each question touches on one of the three critical elements of the workplace:

1. Organizational health
This assesses the fundamentals of the company, including values, execution, leadership, and the culture.

2. The day-to-day job
This addresses interactions with managers, pay, training, and work/life balance. 

3. Engagement - How the company motivates employees and how they feel about working there overall.
