When you think about a high school prom, you might not see an immediate connection between this teenage rite of passage and a company who specializes in basements and crawl spaces, but The
Basement Doctor has always felt strongly about supporting causes that make a big difference for the members of our Central Ohio Community. That is why we became a sponsor for Fairy Goodmothers, a local organization committed to promoting confidence and self-esteem in high school girls by providing prom dresses and accessories for those who lack the means to purchase them personally.
Since it began, Fairy Goodmothers has outfitted almost 7,000 girls in Central Ohio. Last year, more than 1,000 young women visited their Cinderella's Closet Boutique, which opens every prom season for multiple days. The goal for the 2017 prom season is to fully outfit 1,500 girls. On Sunday, September 25, we attended their annual Party for Prom Fundraiser at Copious restaurant. The event included cocktails, great food, and entertainment. There was also a silent auction. A total of $14,000 was raised thanks to the event. Proceeds will be used to purchase plus size prom dresses, shoes, and accessories found at the boutique. It costs approximately $50 to fully outfit a young lady for prom, so these funds will go a long way to help a lot of girls.
The Basement Doctor's sponsorship of this organization will help to fully outfit 10 high school girls for the 2017 prom. Karina Nova, the fundraising chair for Fairy Goodmothers, was so thankful to us and all of the sponsors for helping to make the event such a huge success this year.
"With the money we raised we will be able to help more young ladies in our community experience the Prom of their dreams, without worrying about the cost, which we all know can be extremely expensive," she said. "Our goal is to promote self-esteem and confidence in these young ladies and we appreciate that The Basement Doctor supports and recognizes the importance of our mission."

One Goal End Cancer! The Basement Doctor sponsors a Pelotonia team at this year's ride
The weekend of August 5 -7, The Basement Doctor
had the honor of sponsoring Power of the Pedal: Team Solove in this year's
Pelotonia ride. Pelotonia is a grassroots bike tour with one goal: end
cancer.
Since it began in 2009, the tour has raised over $106 million for
cancer research. While the bike tour takes place over a weekend, the
fundraising efforts are year-round, with 100 percent of the donations directed
to research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
Power of the Pedal had 20 members participate in
fundraising this year, including Maria Durant of ABC 6 / Fox 28, and Kelley Douglas, owner of Stile Salon at Easton. Most of the riders biked an
incredible 100 miles from Columbus to Gambier. One of our own Basement Doctor
team members, Betsy Bankhurst, also took part in the event for the first time as a rider and
had an amazing experience. She says she can’t wait to do it again next
year.
“The peloton is truly a team,” she said. "We have been training together all summer and
encouraged each other along the way. We also could not have done it without the
external support along the ride.”
The fundraising efforts of the team have resulted in more than $67,000 in donations. Riders can continue to get funds up to October 7. To
learn more about this amazing cause, visit pelotonia.org. And to see more pictures from the fundraising gala and Pelotonia weekend, visit Power of the Pedal: Team Solove's Facebook page.

The Basement Doctor goes "Bowling with Buckeyes" to support the Cordle Cares Foundation
This past month, The Basement Doctor had the pleasure of once again supporting the Cordle Cares Foundation and their annual event "Bowling with Buckeyes."
The event took place at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster, Ohio. As a lane sponsor, we were able to bowl with a Special Olympian as well as current and former Ohio State football players. We also sponsored a VIP party for four very deserving kids.
All of the proceeds raised during the event go to Special Olympic and community grants, as well as student scholarships. This year's event was a huge success with former players like Pat Elflein, Josh Perry, and Heisman winner Troy Smith, all coming out to meet fans, raise money and support Special Olympians.
The Cordle Cares Foundation was established by former Buckeye Jim Cordle, and it is committed to helping students in need by providing scholarships and participating in other outreach programs. We would like to thank Jim Cordle and CCF for such a fun and meaningful event. We can't wait for next year!

Showing support for Pelotonia 2016 at this year's Power of the Pedal Gala
On Wednesday, August 3, several local celebrities joined Pelotonia supporters and riders at the 8th Annual Power of the Pedal Team Solove Gala Event at Bon Vie Bistro at Easton. The Basement Doctor presented the event and was proud to be a part of such a memorable evening that included inspirational speakers, fun live entertainment, food and drinks, a 50/50 Raffle, and both a live and silent auction filled with amazing prize packages.
The gala takes place ahead of the Pelotonia opening ceremony to help their team of riders raise even more funds for this important cause. This year, the gala successfully raised thousands of dollars that will go directly to cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Institute. The total raised will be added to the amounts raised by the individual riders and announced after the ride is completed this Sunday, August 7.
The gala was hosted by Maria Durant of ABC 6/ Fox 28 and Kelley Douglas of Stile Salon & Spa, and was emceed by ABC 6 / Fox 28 meteorologist Phil Kelly and Good Day Columbus weekend anchor Adam Slinger. The first lady of Buckeye Football Shelley Meyer spoke along with several cancer survivors, and the doctors Denis Guttridge and Michael Galigiuri of the James Cancer Hospital. All delivered powerful messages of hope.
Each year, Power of the Pedal remembers someone who has lost their life to cancer, and this year they honored Franklin County Sheriff Jim Karnes with the Richard J. Solove Award. Jim was the longest serving sheriff in Franklin County, having served for over 48 years.
The gala was the perfect start for what will surely be an exciting Pelotonia weekend. Riders on Power of the Pedal Team Solove have committed riding anywhere from 25 miles to 180 miles. In addition to being the presenting sponsor for the gala, one of our own Basement Doctor team members Betsy Greenbaum will be riding this weekend. We wish her the best of luck!

The Basement Doctor supports the 2016 Columbus JCC Maccabi Games
This week marked the start of the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games, an Olympic-style sporting competition held every summer in North
America. This year, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus is hosting the games for the fifth time on July 24 to the 29. It is one of the largest organized sports programs for Jewish
teens in the world, with more than 800 teens ages 12-16 from the United States, Israel, Mexico, Canada, and several other countries participating.
The Basement Doctor is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of this event, and to offer our support to these amazing young athletes. It is a great way to connect with the Jewish Community. We were especially excited to present the Maccabi Countdown clock that hung prominently in the lobby of the JCC for the past year.
To learn more about the games and their strong tradition in the Jewish community, visit http://columbusjccmaccabi.org/. You can also see pictures from the sporting and social events on their Facebook page.

The Basement Doctor named one of Columbus' Top Workplaces for the second year in a row
Columbus CEO Magazine once again partnered with Workplace Dynamics to determine a list of the city's best places to work in 2016. For the second year in a row, The Basement Doctor earned a spot among 70 organizations in Central Ohio!
Our employees were surveyed on our company culture, the benefits we offer and their overall professional satisfaction. In fact, the survey weighs responses to 23 statements to determine rankings in these key areas: direction and values, execution on plans, connection with employees, training, work/life balance, relationships with managers, engagement, pay and benefits.
We are honored to be the only home improvement/waterproofing contractor to make the list, and we were even recognized as a "career-building" company thanks to our extensive training program that includes a mix of video, classroom and on-the-job training. We were also acknowledged for the family atmosphere we like to create for our employees through our company events and the many charitable organizations we support as a team.
The full list was published in the magazine's May issue. They will also be hosting an awards event for all of the companies on May 25, at St. Charles Preparatory School's Walter Commons. To learn more about the survey process and to see all of the honorees, click here.

The Basement Doctor ranked No. 1 Residential Remodeler in Columbus
Columbus Business First recently ranked residential remodelers in Central Ohio. The Basement Doctor is proud to be listed in the top spot!
The Columbus Business First Book of Lists provides listings of hundreds of the hottest companies in our area. The book is separated by field, and the lists are ranked. The Top Residential Remodeler Rankings were based on remodeling dollar volume in 2015.
Many homeowners looking to finish their basement may not even realize that The Basement Doctor has grown from a waterproofing and foundation repair company to a whole-house contractor. Our logo says, "Fixed to Finished" and that means we can not only provide solutions to make your home drier, but also a more comfortable and beautiful place to live.
Those looking to start a new remodeling project can find great inspiration from real homeowners in the basement finishing case studies on our website, basementfinishingohio.com. The site also showcases the innovative products and services we provide, including our Magic Wall System. Magic Wall not only looks great and is quick to install, but it is also perfect for the basement environment. While traditional materials like wood and drywall can lead to rot, mildew, and even mold, our system is mold and moisture-resistant, and durable enough to stand the test of time.
With any finishing project, our goal is to educate homeowners so that they can get the most value out of their investment, and create a space that is customized to their lifestyle. No matter how much we grow or evolve as a company, that goal will always remain the same.
